It’s hard to believe that summer is almost behind us. We’ve done our best throughout the summer to keep you in the know about things taking place in and around Cherry Grove and North Myrtle Beach. Here is the latest update of what’s happening here at the beach.
North Myrtle Beach = Safe City
North Myrtle Beach was recently determined to be the safest city in South Carolina according to Backgroundchecks.org. They used a number of criteria to make this determination including number of violent crimes committed in the area and the number of police officers per resident. You can read more here.
Ordinances Protecting Animals
North Myrtle Beach recently became the first city in South Carolina to ban commercial pet sales. Businesses will not be permitted to sell animals within city limits. They can, however, provide space to showcase animals up for adoption. This law will go a long way towards the “adopt don’t shop” mentality and will, hopefully, be a new trend. Other laws were also implemented with the passage of this ordinance including regulations about tethering an animal and requirements for adequate shelter. You can read more here.
Cherry Grove Beach Clean Up
For over thirty years, members of the community have come together to help keep our beaches and waterways clean. The team at Boulineau’s encourages you to participate in the annual Beach Sweep Clean Up. We have a group of 25 that will be hitting the beach here in Cherry Grove. This event is sponsored by the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium and the Department of Natural Resources and takes place state-wide on September 21st. You can learn more or sign up to help by clicking here.
New Businesses Coming Soon
Construction continues on the new Snooky’s on the Ocean. The photo on the right was taken on August 28th. They’ve accomplished quite a bit over the last several weeks. There is no update as to an anticipated open date. We wish them much success with their new, second location.
A new craft brewery will be opening in Barefoot Landing. Crooked Hammock brewery is slated to open in spring 2020. It will feature a large outdoor area with hammocks, fire pits, corn hole, and a playground area for children. You can learn more here.
