Here is your August update on what’s happening now or coming up soon, in and around Cherry Grove Beach.
Adoption Event!
The Grand Strand’s first-ever mega-pet-adoption event, “Furricane Party,” will take place August 17th and 18th from 10am-6pm at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. This collaborative effort is taking place to try to find homes for homeless animals during the busiest season of the year for shelters. They are also hoping to clear out the shelters in advance of the hurricane season as shelter animals can be placed in danger by the threat of storms and evacuations.
The event will feature 300 cats and dogs available for adoption from 12 local animal shelters and rescue groups – the largest adoption event ever for our area. The event is sponsored by Petco Foundation, and hosted by Saint Frances Animal Center; The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach; Grand Strand Humane Society; and Horry County Animal Care Center. New Development?
The NMB Planning Commission is involved in discussions about the annexation of Possum Trot golf course land. The proposed plan includes a housing development consisting of 700 single family homes. Those living in the vicinity are not happy about the proposed development. There is still much discussion to be had and, if approved, the land will still need to be annexed. Future meetings are planned and the state of this development may not be known for several weeks (or even months).
Lock Your Car
There has been a string of car break-ins in North Myrtle Beach recently. Police are investigating but, as of the timing of this article no one has been apprehended. Police are advising everyone to remove valuables from your vehicle and lock it up – especially overnight.
New Building
The new Snooky’s on the Ocean is still undergoing construction. There have been no new updates as to when they anticipate opening.
