Your donation directly impacts people like Caydence Quesada. On January 12, 2013, seven months into the adoption process, Jayson and Ashlee Quesada welcomed the birth of their daughter, Caydence. Joy quickly turned to concern at Caydence’s two-month check-up with McLeod Pediatrician Dr. Brian Naylor, who noticed that her eyes were not focusing on objects. An MRI revealed septo optic dysplasia, a rare congenital condition characterized by an underdeveloped optic nerve, pituitary gland dysfunction and absence of the septum pellucidum. While most individuals have only two of the three components, Caydence joins the 30% of people who have all three, according to the National Institutes of Health. Treatment consists of growth hormone injections six days a week as well as weekly occupational, physical, speech, and vision therapy. “The highlight of this journey is seeing how far she has come,” says Ashlee. “We didn’t know if Caydence would be able to walk or see, but she can do both.”
